Redsbaby® / Photo Composites
This was a fun project for me because I don’t normally work with this kind of products. It is usually footwear and sneakers.
Redsbaby® is an Australian company. They sell prams, strollers, carriers and other baby products and accessories. This year is their 10th Anniversary so they wanted to create fun images of their products featuring key Australian cities and locations. They thought I could do a good job so they hired me to help them with the project.
Normally, companies send me their products in advance so I can shoot them in my studio in order to photo composite them into the scenes or backgrounds they want. In this case, there was no time for them to ship me the products. So, I had to work with the available 3D renders of the products they already had. Luckily the renders are photo realistic and the quality was good enough so I could work with them as if they were traditional e-commerce type of product shots.
Working with 3D renders is no big deal since I have worked with this kind of files before. The only caveats are the lighting work has to be done all in post production using Photoshop® and the choices for background pictures are limited to the stock images that fit the particular perspectives of these product shots. Ideally when shooting the shoes we can use any background picture we want since I can shoot the shoe in a way that matches any perspective and lighting set up of the chosen background picture. This was not the case so it was a pure retouching and photo composite job. No product photography involved.
Here is a layer breakdown of the retouching and photo composite process necessary to integrate some of these 3D renders:
All the pieces were retouched and photo composited using Adobe Photoshop®. The background pictures were sourced mainly from Adobe Stock® and ShutterStock®. The Sydney background shot with the ferry and the Opera House was provided by the client. They went one afternoon and took the picture so I could photo composite the product and the raft / floatation device. The raft used in this image was AI generated using the web version of Adobe Firefly®.
The main idea for the campaign was for the products to be placed at specific locations within Australia showcasing the beautiful scenery the country has to offer with a blend of landscapes full of nature elements like the Outback and the coasts but also some city elements from Melbourne and Sydney which is where Redsbaby® is from. They also wanted to feature an Australian airport since many of their products are used for traveling.
The images were used all over their website and social media. For a fast project with a quick turnaround and limited options for background pictures I am very happy with the results. The guys at Redsbaby® love the photo composites as well and the products look awesome! They don’t look like 3D renders so I guess I did my job well!
